day tripping part 1

seems like a very long time ago that i mentioned chase and i would be exploring together and taking day trips.  and we have.  quite a few.  just haven't shared much.  so i will just jump in here and share a little random, quickly planned excursion back in early june.  how is it even possible that i can say early june?  don't want this summer to be sliding by so quickly.  anyway life is good these days, and so far filled with laughter and long lazy pleasant days, and there is so much to look forward to in the next couple months.

part 1: montauk lighthouse

its nice to be a tour guide when friends visit.  sometimes i get so wrapped up in my own insulated little daily orbit that i forget how much fun new york can be, and how much my city offers.  its good to shake off the routine and do a little sightseeing through fresh eyes.  so it took me about two and a half hours to reach the lighthouse from my place in brooklyn.  chase, my friend, and i left at about ten o'clock in the morning, but there was still a little bit of traffic which is just unavoidable i suppose.  not being too hot at all that early june day, actually it was a perfect day, not a cloud in the sky, i wore my absolutely favorite pair of wide leg, high waisted sailor jeans, an old black billowy poets blouse, and comfy, yet four inch black heels.  being officially past memorial day, i broke out my summer basket, and skull scarf, and hat, and shades are so much a part of my day i won't even mention them.  slicked on a lipstick, guerlain shade 555 deep plum to compliment my pale face and purple scarf.  yes, i am a near vampire when it comes to the sun.

after being informed by the very kind lady at the ticket counter that heels are not permitted in the lighthouse tower, i was really glad i threw a pair of fringey, floppy target flats in my bag.

a walk to the beach after touring the lighthouse.

part two: lunch at the lobster roll
we headed a few miles down montauk highway and stopped for lunch at the iconic roadside classic, and just loved the kitschy decor just as much as the great food.  i had fish tacos, and my lunch companion had the classic hot lobster roll.  i am extremely allergic to shellfish, so i just drooled and admired the incredibly buttery and gorgeous looking lobster from afar, thoroughly enjoyed my tacos, as well as the fresh and brisk air,  and also had a glass of summer in bottle rosé.  nach.

 part three: pollock-krasner house

so after a very pleasant lunch, we hopped back on the highway and ventured down to the town of springs.  i was so excited to see/visit the former home of artist jackson pollock and his wife lee krasner which is now a study center and museum.  unfortunately we were there on a wednesday, and the museum is only open thursday through sunday of every week i believe, but the woman in the office let us take a nice walk around the grounds. i was so happy that my friend who was visiting from europe was able to at least walk around with me, and get a proper feel for the place.  i could really feel the intense presence of the late great artist, and i really could not imagine a more quintessentially american setting in which to have created his work, and lived his life.  the full on vintage glamour really affected me.  if those walls could talk.  i fully intend to come back some day to actually tour the homes interior, as well as the studio, but it was still an extremely lovely day.

  1. How beautiful. I love lighthouses. Have you seen Pollack? I saw it at TIFF years ago, with Ed Harris introducing. He gave such insight into the artist. What a complicated man. Glad you are in a good place. XO
