yes, valentines day is a commercialized business, full of greeting cards and do i really care? no. i have no problem whatsoever celebrating love. no better excuse to make julia childs creme caramel recipe in my mothers old copper heart shaped mold? six eggs and five yolks full of love. i think that is a rather constructive way to spend a cold winter evening. yep.
mismatched plates
pretty tables. good food.
pink walls. found this picture of betsey johnsons house in an old rachael ashwell book. love the color. love the picture. love the book.
brooklyn on a rainy foggy day.
sleep. no joke. and conducting my life from my pillow nest. warm freshly laundered flannel sheets. laptop coffee and phone handy.
recipe for perfect freshly laundered sheets:
a very very cold winter night
one set cotton flannel sheets
splash of unscented laundry detergent of your choosing. i switch back and forth between unscented tide and all.
fill machine with hot water and add detergent
add sheets when full
run for one full cycle
then refill with warm water, and start again, this time without any soap at all
dry as usual
make bed while warm from dryer
very very very lightly spritz top of bed with perfume of your choice
s. maria novella aqua di colonia or portrait of a lady are my current favorites
jump in at any time after this point
optional accompaniments:
silk pajamas
a mohair or cashmere throw
a gorgeous guy
a complimentary pillow or two in percale or silk
red manicure and pedicure to match

my little guy. so much. is it weird that i love to watch him sleep?
driving. anywhere. with chase of course. preferably to my cozy little nest in pennsylvania.
the shoe repair shop. the ritual of fixing my heel caps, and the smell of the place. walking out good as new.
pink himalayan salt. lavender epsom salts. jo malone bath oil.
my quiet tiny country kitchen, and the simple shabbychic balloon shade i just hung on the door...
Beautiful, as always. Happy Valentine's Day, Cynthia. Xx
